Wi-Fi 7 stands for Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be), a telecom abbreviation.
Newest mainstream Wi-Fi generation, certified from January 2024, introducing 320 MHz channels in the 6 GHz band, 4096-QAM modulation and multi-link operation, which lets devices use several bands at once.
Example: With a Wi-Fi 7 router and phone, file transfers to the NAS reach over 2 Gbit/s.
Usage notes
Wi-Fi 7 is the consumer name for IEEE 802.11be, "Extremely High Throughput", with a theoretical peak of about 46 Gbit/s. Multi-link operation improves reliability and latency by combining or switching between bands. Full benefits require devices that support the 6 GHz band and wide channels, which vary by country. The Wi-Fi Alliance certified devices before the IEEE standard was formally finished.
