IEEE wireless networking standard marketed as Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, designed for high efficiency in dense environments such as apartments, offices, stadiums and airports.

Usage notes

The IEEE formally approved 802.11ax in 2021, after the Wi-Fi Alliance had already begun certifying devices in 2019. Its formal name in the standard is High Efficiency (HE). The IEEE 802.11 working group names each amendment with letters, so "ax" follows "ac" and precedes "be". Spec sheets often list both names, as in "Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)".
