TIMI stands for Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction, a cardiology abbreviation.
Research group whose name labels two cardiology standards: the TIMI risk score for unstable angina and NSTEMI, which assigns up to 7 points, and the TIMI flow grade, which rates blood flow in a coronary artery on angiography from 0 (no flow) to 3 (normal).
Example: Post-PCI angiography shows TIMI 3 flow in the LAD; TIMI risk score was 4 on admission.
Usage notes
The TIMI Study Group, founded in 1984 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, has run dozens of major cardiovascular trials. The NSTE-ACS risk score, published in 2000, counts age 65 or older, three or more risk factors, known coronary stenosis, aspirin use in the past week, severe angina, ST deviation and elevated markers. Pronounced "TIM-ee."
