1. Leviticus
Religion · Bible Book Abbreviations
Third book of the Torah, 27 chapters of priestly law covering sacrifices, ritual purity, dietary laws, the Day of Atonement (chapter 16) and the Holiness Code. Leviticus 19:18 contains the command "love thy neighbour as thyself," later quoted by Jesus.
Example: Kosher dietary rules are set out in Lev. 11.
SBL writes Lev, and short forms use Lv. The Hebrew title is Vayikra ("and he called"). The book takes its English name from the Levites, the priestly tribe, and is traditionally the first book Jewish children studied in many communities.
2. Levetiracetam (LEV)
Medical · Drug Abbreviations
Widely used antiseizure drug for focal and generalized epilepsy, available as tablets, liquid and IV. It has few drug interactions and does not require blood level monitoring in most patients. Brand name Keppra.
Example: Load LEV 60 mg/kg IV (max 4,500 mg) for status epilepticus after benzodiazepines.
Irritability, mood changes and aggression ("Keppra rage") are the main side effects; some clinicians add pyridoxine to reduce them, with limited evidence. Doses are adjusted for kidney function. The ESETT trial (2019) found IV levetiracetam, fosphenytoin and valproate similarly effective for benzodiazepine-resistant status epilepticus.
