1. Luke
Religion · Bible Book Abbreviations
Gospel of 24 chapters, the longest book of the New Testament, traditionally written by Luke, a physician and companion of Paul, who also wrote Acts. It includes the familiar Christmas narrative in chapter 2 and parables found only in Luke, such as the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son.
Example: Many families read Lk 2:1–20 aloud on Christmas Eve.
SBL leaves Luke unabbreviated; Catholic Bibles and Chicago's short forms use Lk, and Luk. appears in older indexes. Luke and Acts are addressed to the same person, Theophilus. Luke gives special attention to women, the poor and outsiders.
2. Lake
Geography & Places · Address Abbreviations
Suffix for roads beside or named after a lake, abbreviated LK by USPS, with Lakes as LKS. Maps and place names more often shorten Lake to L.
Example: The cabin is at 12 Crystal Lk Rd, past the boat launch.
Lk appears in thousands of addresses in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida, states with many lakes.
3. Sri Lanka (LK)
Geography & Places · Country Code Abbreviations
Sri Lanka, called Ceylon until 1972, takes its code from Lanka. Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is the official capital and Colombo the commercial center; the alpha-3 code is LKA.
Example: Tea auctions in Colombo set prices for Ceylon tea exported from LK.
Ceylon remains the trade name for Sri Lankan tea. The language codes for Sinhala and Tamil are si and ta, and si is also the ISO code for Slovenia.
