1. Midaxillary line
Medical · Anatomy Abbreviations
Imaginary vertical line running down from the center of the armpit on each side of the chest. It is the reference for chest tube placement within the "safe triangle", for ECG lead V6 and for needle decompression in updated trauma protocols.
Example: Pigtail catheter inserted at the 5th ICS, MAL, under ultrasound guidance.
The safe triangle is bounded by the lateral edge of the pectoralis major, the lateral edge of the latissimus dorsi and a horizontal line at the level of the nipple. Chest lead V6 sits on the left MAL at the same level as V4. The anterior and posterior axillary lines lie in front of and behind it.
2. MyAnimeList
Texting & Internet Slang · Fandom and Fan Fiction Abbreviations
Popular website and database for tracking, rating and reviewing anime and manga. Fans keep public lists of what they have watched and read and compare scores.
Example: My MAL says I've finished 400 anime, which explains my sleep schedule.
Users often share MAL profiles to compare taste, and the site's average scores and rankings are frequently cited in fan debates. "MAL score" has become shorthand for a show's reputation. Other tracking sites include AniList and Kitsu.
3. Malachi (Mal.)
Religion · Bible Book Abbreviations
Last book of the Old Testament in Christian Bibles, four chapters (three in Hebrew Bibles), rebuking careless priests and promising that God will send "Elijah the prophet" before the day of the Lord. Christians link this promise to John the Baptist.
Example: Mal. 3:10 on tithing is a frequent text for church stewardship campaigns.
SBL and short forms both use Mal. The name means "my messenger" in Hebrew and may be a title rather than a personal name. Because of chapter divisions, Malachi 4 in English Bibles is Malachi 3:19–24 in Hebrew Bibles.
