1. Pound sterling
Business & Finance · Currency Abbreviations
The currency of the United Kingdom, its Crown Dependencies and several British Overseas Territories, issued by the Bank of England and, for local notes, by several commercial banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is often described as the oldest currency still in use, with a history of more than 1,200 years.
Example: Transfer fee: GBP 15 for payments outside the Single Euro Payments Area.
Financial markets call it sterling, slang calls it the quid, and forex traders nickname the GBP/USD rate "cable" after the 19th-century transatlantic telegraph cable. The £ sign comes from L for Latin libra. Britain decimalized on 15 February 1971; before that a pound was 20 shillings or 240 pence, and today it is 100 pence.
2. Google Business Profile
Business & Finance · Marketing & Advertising Abbreviations
Free listing that shows a business's name, location, hours, photos, reviews and posts in Google Search and Maps, and the main tool of local SEO for shops, restaurants and service businesses.
Example: Ask happy customers to leave reviews on our GBP; it's how most people find the shop.
Known as Google My Business until November 2021. Profiles must be verified, and fake listings and review manipulation are recurring problems. As a currency code, GBP means the British pound sterling.
