EUR stands for Euro, a currency abbreviation.
Shared currency of 21 European Union countries, issued by the European Central Bank and the national central banks of the Eurosystem. Introduced for electronic payments in 1999 and as cash in 2002, it is the world's second-largest reserve currency.
Example: The invoice total is EUR 4,250, payable by SEPA transfer within 30 days.
Usage notes
The euro is divided into 100 cents. Montenegro and Kosovo use it unilaterally, and Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City and Andorra by formal agreement. The € sign was inspired by the Greek letter epsilon and the first letter of Europe. Banknotes show imaginary bridges and windows in historic architectural styles rather than real buildings.
