UUI stands for Urgency urinary incontinence, a nephrology & urology abbreviation.

Leakage of urine accompanied or immediately preceded by a sudden, strong need to urinate, caused by involuntary bladder contractions. It is the "wet" component of overactive bladder and becomes more common with age.

Example: Mixed incontinence, UUI predominant; treat urgency first with bladder training and medication.

Usage notes

Also written UI, MUI (mixed) or "urge incontinence". When both stress and urgency leakage occur, the more bothersome type is generally treated first. Caffeine, alcohol and large fluid volumes worsen symptoms. Sacral neuromodulation and percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation are options when drugs fail.
