1. Nickel manganese cobalt (oxide)

Family of lithium-ion cathode chemistries combining nickel, manganese and cobalt, used in many long-range EVs because of high energy density. Versions are named by metal ratio, such as NMC 622 or NMC 811, the latter being 80% nickel.
Example: The premium trim uses NMC 811 cells for longer range, while the base model uses LFP.
Also written NCM. Manufacturers have increased nickel content to raise energy density and reduce reliance on cobalt, much of which is mined in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with human-rights concerns. NMC cells are more prone to thermal runaway than LFP and need careful thermal management.
2. No-movement clause

Stronger NHL contract provision than a no-trade clause: the player cannot be traded, placed on waivers or sent to the minors without his consent. Teams also must protect NMC players in expansion drafts unless they waive the clause.
Example: Teams had to protect every NMC player when Seattle stocked its roster in the 2021 expansion draft.
NMCs became a major issue in the 2017 Vegas and 2021 Seattle expansion drafts. A buyout can still end an NMC player's contract. The clause often converts to a no-trade clause in later contract years.
