Developed by Bosch and introduced in 1986, CAN first appeared in a production car on the 1991 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It is mandatory for OBD-II diagnostics on US vehicles from 2008. In citations of canon law, "can." or "c." refers to a numbered canon, such as can. 1055 on marriage in the Catholic Code. Canons regular, such as the Norbertines, are a distinct kind of religious community. In speech, canons are addressed as "Canon".
