1. British Summer Time

Units & Measurements · Time Zone Abbreviations

The daylight saving time of the United Kingdom, one hour ahead of GMT (UTC+1), used from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. In winter the UK returns to Greenwich Mean Time.

Example: Clocks go forward one hour at 1 a.m. GMT on Sunday, when BST begins.

Britain first adopted summer time in 1916, during World War I, after a long campaign by builder William Willett. During World War II it used British Double Summer Time (UTC+2) in summer, and from 1968 to 1971 it tried British Standard Time, UTC+1 all year. BST also stands for Bangladesh Standard Time (UTC+6).

2. Bangladesh Standard Time

Units & Measurements · Time Zone Abbreviations

Six hours ahead of UTC, Bangladesh Standard Time is the single year-round zone for Dhaka, Chittagong and the rest of Bangladesh, half an hour ahead of India.

Example: The Dhaka Stock Exchange trades from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. BST, Sunday through Thursday.

Bangladesh tried daylight saving in 2009, moving clocks to UTC+7, but abandoned it after one season. Its weekend falls on Friday and Saturday, so business days overlap with Western partners only from Monday to Thursday. International sources add the country name to avoid confusion with British Summer Time.

3. Binary search tree

Technology & Computing · Programming Abbreviations

A tree data structure in which each node's left subtree holds smaller keys and its right subtree larger ones, allowing search, insertion and deletion in logarithmic time when the tree is balanced. It is a staple of coding interviews.

Example: Implement insert and delete for a BST, then check whether your tree stays balanced.

An unbalanced BST degrades into a linked list with linear-time operations, so self-balancing variants such as AVL trees (1962) and red-black trees keep the height in check. An in-order traversal visits the keys in sorted order. In time zones BST means British Summer Time.
