1. Body dysmorphic disorder

Medical · Mental Health & Psychiatry Abbreviations

Preoccupation with one or more perceived flaws in physical appearance that are slight or not noticeable to others, accompanied by repetitive behaviors such as mirror checking, grooming, skin picking or reassurance seeking. It causes significant distress and carries a high risk of suicide.

Example: BDD focused on nose and skin, checks mirrors 4 hours daily; requests rhinoplasty, refer for CBT and SSRI.

BDD affects roughly 2 percent of people. Many seek cosmetic surgery or dermatology treatments, which rarely relieve the preoccupation, so screening in those settings is recommended. Muscle dysmorphia, a belief that one's body is too small, is a recognized specifier. Effective treatments are CBT tailored to BDD and SSRIs.

2. Behavior-driven development

Technology & Computing · Programming Abbreviations

An extension of TDD that describes software behavior in plain-language scenarios, usually in Given-When-Then form, which double as automated acceptance tests. Tools such as Cucumber, SpecFlow and Behave run the scenarios against the code.

Example: Write the BDD scenario first: Given a logged-in user, When they add an item, Then the cart shows 1.

Introduced by Dan North in the mid-2000s to make TDD easier to teach and to involve business stakeholders. The Gherkin language used by Cucumber formalizes the Given-When-Then structure. Teams sometimes adopt the tools without the collaboration, ending up with verbose tests and little shared understanding.

3. Benefits Delivery at Discharge

Military · Veteran Abbreviations

Program that lets service members file a VA disability claim 180 to 90 days before leaving active duty, so a decision can come soon after separation.

Example: Filing through BDD meant my rating arrived a month after I got out.

Applicants must be available for exams during the window before separation and provide service treatment records. A separate process applies for those with fewer than 90 days remaining. The program aims to prevent gaps in income after discharge.
