AWST stands for Australian Western Standard Time, a time zone abbreviation.

Western Australia's time, UTC+8, kept all year. The state has rejected daylight saving in four referendums, most recently in 2009.

Example: Perth office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. AWST, two hours behind Sydney in winter.

Usage notes

In summer, when eastern states move to AEDT, the gap between Perth and Sydney grows to three hours. AWST shares its offset with Singapore, China and the Philippines, which helps Perth's mining companies deal with Asian customers. An unofficial Central Western Time (UTC+8:45) is used by a few roadhouses near the South Australian border.
