BCRA stands for Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, a US law abbreviation.

Campaign finance law of 2002, known as McCain-Feingold, that banned national parties from raising unlimited "soft money" and restricted corporate- and union-funded "electioneering communications" before elections. It also created the "stand by your ad" disclaimer requirement.

Example: Because of BCRA, candidates end their TV ads by saying they approve the message.

Usage notes

Senators John McCain and Russ Feingold sponsored it. The Supreme Court upheld most of it in McConnell v. FEC (2003), but Citizens United v. FEC (2010) struck down its limits on independent spending by corporations and unions, paving the way for super PACs.
