1. Social Democratic Party of Germany

Germany's main centre-left party and its oldest, with roots in the 1860s labor movement. Chancellors from the party include Willy Brandt, Helmut Schmidt, Gerhard Schröder and Olaf Scholz.
Example: The SPD agreed to join the coalition as junior partner after weeks of talks.
It traces its origins to Ferdinand Lassalle's General German Workers' Association of 1863. Its 2025 federal election result of about 16 percent was its worst in postwar history, but it entered government as the CDU/CSU's coalition partner. It was banned under the Nazi regime and refounded in 1945.
2. Sterile processing department

Example: Check the SPD: it limits infertility coverage to three IVF cycles.
A summary of material modifications (SMM) informs participants of changes between SPD updates. The SPD is longer and more detailed than the standardized summary of benefits and coverage. Participants can request the full plan documents from the plan administrator.
4. Serial presence detect

Small memory chip on a RAM module that stores its size, speed, timings, voltage and manufacturer data, plus XMP or EXPO overclocking profiles, which the motherboard reads at startup to configure memory.
Example: The BIOS reads the SPD and sets the new DDR5 sticks to 4800 MT/s until you enable EXPO.
SPD is defined by JEDEC and stored in an EEPROM on each module; DDR5 modules use an SPD hub that also includes a temperature sensor. Tools such as CPU-Z show the SPD contents. Some cheap modules carry incorrect SPD data, causing instability. In politics, SPD is the abbreviation of Germany's Social Democratic Party.
5. Separation program designator

Three-character code in block 26 of the DD-214 that identifies the specific reason for a service member's separation, such as completion of service, disability or misconduct.
Example: The SPD code on his DD-214 raised questions from the employer's background check.
