1. Registered nurse

Licensed nurse who assesses patients, plans and delivers care, gives medications, educates patients and coordinates with other professionals. Candidates complete an approved nursing program and pass the NCLEX-RN, then are licensed by a state board of nursing.
Example: Seeking full-time RN for 32-bed med-surg unit, nights, new grads welcome.
RNs can qualify through an associate degree (ADN), a bachelor's degree (BSN) or, less commonly today, a hospital diploma program; all take the same licensing exam. The Nurse Licensure Compact lets RNs in member states practice across more than 40 jurisdictions on one multistate license. Registered nurses are the largest group of healthcare professionals in the United States.
2. Right now
Texting & Internet Slang · Texting and Chat Abbreviations
Indicates the present moment, as in "busy rn" or "I need coffee rn." Very common among teens and young adults in texts and social posts.
Example: Can't talk rn, driving, call you in 20.
In medicine RN means registered nurse, which context makes clear. Often adds emphasis or urgency ("I'm so tired rn"). Fine in casual work chat with colleagues.
3. Royal Navy
Military · Military Unit and Organization Abbreviations

Example: The RN deployed a frigate to escort merchant ships through the Red Sea.
The Royal Navy traces its origins to the English navy of the sixteenth century, and it is known as the Senior Service because it is the oldest of the British armed forces. RN after an officer's name, as in "Capt Smith RN," distinguishes naval from army captains. In healthcare, RN means registered nurse.
4. National Rally

Founded in 1972 as the National Front by Jean-Marie Le Pen, it was renamed in 2018 under his daughter Marine Le Pen, who reached the presidential runoff in 2017 and 2022. In March 2025 she was convicted of embezzling EU funds and barred from running for office, a ruling under appeal. Jordan Bardella succeeded her as party president in 2022.
5. Radon (Rn)
Science & Engineering · Chemical Element Abbreviations
Radon (atomic number 86) is a colorless, odorless radioactive noble gas that seeps from uranium-bearing soil and rock and can accumulate in basements. It is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers, so home testing and sub-slab venting systems are widely recommended in affected regions.
Example: The basement test read 6.2 pCi/L of Rn, so the inspector recommended a mitigation system.
Friedrich Ernst Dorn is traditionally credited with discovering radium's radioactive gas, "radium emanation," in 1900, after Ernest Rutherford and Robert Owens had noticed thorium emanation in 1899. William Ramsay and Robert Whytlaw-Gray measured its density in 1908 and called it niton; the name radon was adopted in 1923. The US EPA recommends fixing homes at or above 4 picocuries per liter.
