PNV stands for Prenatal vitamin, a drug abbreviation.
Multivitamin designed for pregnancy and the months before conception, containing folic acid to prevent neural tube defects, plus iron, iodine and often DHA. Many are prescription products, but OTC versions are equally acceptable for most people.
Example: Start PNV daily now while trying to conceive; continue through breastfeeding.
Usage notes
The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends 0.4 to 0.8 mg (400 to 800 mcg) of folic acid daily for anyone who could become pregnant, because the neural tube closes within about four weeks of conception, often before pregnancy is known. Iron in prenatal vitamins commonly causes constipation and nausea.
