PSE stands for Pseudoephedrine, a drug abbreviation.
Oral nasal decongestant, best known as Sudafed, that shrinks swollen nasal blood vessels. Because it can be converted into methamphetamine, US sales are restricted and products are kept behind the pharmacy counter.
Example: Avoid PSE given uncontrolled blood pressure; try saline spray instead.
Usage notes
The Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005 set daily and monthly purchase limits with ID and logbooks. Oregon (2006) and Mississippi (2010) went further and required a prescription; Oregon reversed its rule in 2022. Many "PE" products substitute phenylephrine, which an FDA advisory panel found ineffective by mouth in 2023.
