1. Measles, mumps and rubella vaccine
Medical · Pediatric & Neonatal Abbreviations
Live combination vaccine given in two doses, at 12–15 months and 4–6 years, that is about 97 percent effective against measles after both doses. It is also recommended for adults without evidence of immunity and for infants 6–11 months before international travel.
Example: MMR #1 given at 12 months; next dose due at 4 years or before kindergarten.
Maurice Hilleman's team developed the combined vaccine, licensed in the US in 1971. A 1998 study claiming a link to autism was found to be fraudulent and retracted in 2010, and many large studies have found no link. The US declared measles eliminated in 2000, but outbreaks among undervaccinated communities continue, including a large 2025 outbreak in West Texas that caused the first US measles deaths in a decade.
2. Matchmaking rating
Texting & Internet Slang · Gaming Slang Abbreviations
Number representing a player's estimated skill, used by the game to match them with opponents of similar ability in ranked or casual play. It may be visible or hidden behind ranks and medals.
Example: My MMR is so high now that every lobby is full of streamers.
Dota 2 has shown MMR numbers directly, while League of Legends and Valorant use hidden MMR behind visible ranks, which is why players' ranks and opponents sometimes seem mismatched. Players complain about "MMR hell" when they feel stuck. Most systems are based on Elo or Glicko-style rating math.
