LVEDP stands for Left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, a cardiology abbreviation.
Pressure in the left ventricle at the end of filling, just before contraction, measured during left heart catheterization. Normal values are roughly 12 mmHg or less, and higher values indicate a stiff or overfilled ventricle.
Example: LVEDP 28 mmHg; limit contrast and give IV furosemide after the case.
Usage notes
LVEDP reflects left-sided filling pressure and is closely related to pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, which estimates it indirectly from the right side. The POSEIDON trial (2014) used LVEDP to guide hydration and reduce contrast-associated kidney injury after catheterization. A high LVEDP with a normal ejection fraction supports HFpEF.
