LSV stands for Low-speed vehicle, a driving abbreviation.
Small four-wheeled vehicle with a top speed of 20 to 25 mph, such as a street-legal golf cart, permitted on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less in many US states. LSVs must have seat belts, lights, mirrors and a VIN.
Example: Our retirement community lets residents drive LSVs to the shops and the clubhouse.
Usage notes
Federal safety standards for LSVs are much less demanding than those for cars, so they offer little crash protection. Electric versions are sometimes called neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs). State rules on registration and licensing vary.
