GLP stands for Good Laboratory Practice, a medical research abbreviation.
Quality system for planning, performing, monitoring, recording and reporting nonclinical laboratory studies, such as animal toxicology studies, submitted to regulators to support the safety of drugs, chemicals and devices. In the US the rules are codified in 21 CFR Part 58.
Example: Pivotal 28-day toxicology study conducted under GLP at a contract laboratory.
Usage notes
The FDA issued GLP regulations in 1978 after investigations found fabricated data at Industrial Bio-Test Laboratories, then a major testing company. OECD GLP principles allow member countries to accept each other's data. GLP-1, with a hyphen and number, refers to glucagon-like peptide-1, an unrelated hormone.
