1. Family history
Medical · Medical Documentation Abbreviations
Section of the history recording health problems in blood relatives, especially first-degree relatives (parents, siblings and children), and the ages at which they occurred. It highlights inherited risks such as early heart disease or certain cancers.
Example: FH: father MI at 48, mother breast cancer at 52, sister type 1 diabetes.
Also written FHx; a pedigree diagram may be drawn for genetic counseling. Age of onset matters, since a parent's heart attack before age 55 in a man or 65 in a woman raises risk more than one at 80. In cardiology FH also means familial hypercholesterolemia.
2. Familial hypercholesterolemia
Medical · Cardiology Abbreviations
Inherited disorder, most often from LDL receptor gene variants, that causes very high LDL cholesterol from birth and premature heart disease. Heterozygous FH affects about 1 in 250 people, and untreated men often have heart attacks before age 50.
Example: LDL 245 mg/dL with tendon xanthomas and a father who had an MI at 41: probable FH, cascade screening recommended.
Clinical criteria include the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network score and the Simon Broome criteria. Signs include tendon xanthomas, corneal arcus before age 45 and xanthelasma. The rare homozygous form causes LDL levels often above 500 mg/dL and heart disease in childhood. In general charts FH more often means family history, so the lipid context matters.
3. Future husband
Texting & Internet Slang · Dating and Relationship Abbreviations
Wedding-forum term for a fiancé, used mostly by brides planning a wedding, as in "FH wants a small ceremony." It shows up constantly in posts about budgets, guest lists and family disagreements.
Example: FH and I are arguing about whether to hire a DJ or a band.
Common on wedding-planning sites such as The Knot and WeddingWire, where users also write FMIL (future mother-in-law) and FSIL (future sister-in-law). Some posters use FW for future wife. Usually affectionate, though venting posts can be less so.
