eARC stands for Enhanced Audio Return Channel, a consumer electronics abbreviation.
Upgraded version of HDMI ARC introduced with HDMI 2.1 that has enough bandwidth to send lossless and object-based surround formats, such as Dolby TrueHD with Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio, from a TV to a soundbar or receiver.
Example: To get lossless Atmos from the TV's streaming apps, connect the AV receiver to the eARC port.
Usage notes
eARC offers roughly 37 Mbit/s for audio, enough for up to eight channels of uncompressed PCM, compared with about 1 Mbit/s for basic ARC. It also improves device discovery and lip-sync correction. Both the TV and the audio device must support eARC; otherwise the link falls back to ARC. A high-speed HDMI cable with Ethernet is recommended.
