HDMI 1.4 (2009) added the audio return channel, 2.0 (2013) brought 4K at 60 Hz and 2.1 (2017) raised bandwidth to 48 Gbit/s, while HDMI 2.2, released in 2025, doubles it to 96 Gbit/s. Connector types include standard (Type A), mini (Type C) and micro (Type D).
