ENC stands for Environmental noise cancellation, a consumer electronics abbreviation.
Microphone technology in headsets and earbuds that suppresses background noise, such as traffic or wind, from the wearer's voice during calls. It improves what the other person hears, not what the wearer hears.
Example: The earbuds advertise ENC for calls, but they lack ANC for blocking noise while listening.
Usage notes
ENC typically combines several microphones with beamforming and digital signal processing to isolate the voice. Budget earbuds often advertise ENC prominently, which can confuse buyers expecting active noise cancellation. Qualcomm's Clear Voice Capture (cVc) is one widely used implementation.
