1. Binge eating disorder
Medical · Mental Health & Psychiatry Abbreviations
The most common eating disorder in the US, defined by recurrent episodes of eating unusually large amounts of food with a sense of loss of control, at least weekly for three months, without regular compensatory purging. Episodes cause marked distress and are often followed by guilt or shame.
Example: BED, binges 3 times weekly, BMI 36; start CBT and discuss lisdexamfetamine.
BED became a formal DSM-5 diagnosis in 2013 after appearing in an appendix of DSM-IV. Lisdexamfetamine was approved for moderate to severe BED in adults in 2015, the first drug approved for it. BED affects people across the weight spectrum and is associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Pronounced as letters, not as the word "bed".
2. Bachelor of Education (BEd)
Education & Academia · Degree Abbreviations
Teacher-preparation degree combining subject knowledge, pedagogy and supervised student teaching. In Canada, Australia and the UK it exists either as a four-year undergraduate program or as a consecutive degree of one to two years taken after a first bachelor's.

Often written B.Ed. in Commonwealth countries. In the US the title is uncommon; future teachers usually earn a BA or BS in education or in a subject plus a state teaching license. In England most secondary teachers instead take a one-year PGCE after their first degree.
