WLR stands for Weekly Law Reports, a legal citation abbreviation.

English law report series published by the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting since 1953, appearing quickly in weekly parts. Each year has three volumes: volume 1 holds cases not intended for the main Law Reports, while volumes 2 and 3 hold cases that will later be republished there.

Example: The Court of Appeal decision is reported at [2019] 1 WLR 1234 but not yet in the Law Reports.

Usage notes

Citation conventions prefer the official Law Reports (AC, QB, KB, Ch) over the WLR when both exist. Because the WLR appears faster, recent cases are often cited to it first, together with the neutral citation. It competes with the All England Law Reports, a commercial series published by LexisNexis.
