Ass'n stands for Association, a legal citation abbreviation also used in general use.
Bluebook Table T6 abbreviation for "Association" in case names and citations, using an apostrophe in place of omitted letters. It appears in cases involving trade groups, unions, homeowners' associations and bar associations.
Example: N.Y. State Rifle & Pistol Ass'n v. Bruen reshaped Second Amendment analysis in 2022.
Usage notes
In textual sentences, the Bluebook allows abbreviation of only widely known acronyms and eight words: "&", "Ass'n", "Bros.", "Co.", "Corp.", "Inc.", "Ltd." and "No." So Ass'n is one of the few abbreviations that may appear in a case name in running text. Non-legal styles use "Assn." or "Assoc." instead.
