All ER stands for All England Law Reports, a legal citation abbreviation.
Commercial English law report series published by LexisNexis, originally Butterworths, since 1936, covering significant decisions of the UK Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court. Citations give the year in square brackets and a volume number, as in [1990] 1 All ER 568.
Example: Counsel's bundle cited Caparo Industries plc v Dickman [1990] 1 All ER 568 on the duty of care.
Usage notes
Courts in England and Wales generally expect citation of the official Law Reports when available, with All ER as an alternative. The series has specialist offshoots such as All ER (Comm) for commercial cases. Older practitioners often call it "the All Englands".
