A.2d stands for Atlantic Reporter, Second Series, a legal citation abbreviation.
The Atlantic Reporter's second series, covering appellate decisions from the northeastern and mid-Atlantic states between 1938 and 2010. Landmark state decisions of that era, including New Jersey's influential products-liability cases, are cited to it.
Example: Henningsen v. Bloomfield Motors, Inc., 161 A.2d 69 (N.J. 1960), struck down the carmaker's warranty disclaimer.
Usage notes
Write it closed up as "A.2d". Maine and Delaware stopped publishing their own official reports in the mid-1960s, so for those states the Atlantic Reporter is the only print source of modern decisions. Its successor, A.3d, began in 2010.
