VTT stands for Web Video Text Tracks, a file format abbreviation.

W3C subtitle and caption format, also called WebVTT, used with HTML5 video in web browsers. It supports positioning, styling, chapters and metadata cues beyond what SRT offers.

Example: The video player loads captions from an English VTT file and a Spanish one.

Usage notes

A WebVTT file begins with the line "WEBVTT" and uses periods rather than commas before the milliseconds in timestamps. Browsers display it through the HTML track element, and streaming systems use it for captions in HLS. Converting from SRT is usually straightforward, and many caption tools export both.
