TIR stands for Time in range, an endocrinology & diabetes abbreviation.
Percentage of continuous glucose monitor readings between 70 and 180 mg/dL, now a standard measure of diabetes control alongside A1C. International consensus targets for most adults are more than 70 percent in range and less than 4 percent below 70 mg/dL.
Example: TIR improved from 54 to 72 percent after switching to automated insulin delivery.
Usage notes
Targets were set by an international consensus published in 2019. Each 10-point gain in TIR corresponds roughly to a meaningful drop in A1C. Related metrics include time below range (TBR) and time above range (TAR). Pregnancy uses a tighter range of 63–140 mg/dL.
