SB5 stands for Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Fifth Edition, a psychology abbreviation.
Individually administered intelligence test for ages 2 to over 85, measuring five factors: fluid reasoning, knowledge, quantitative reasoning, visual-spatial processing and working memory, each with verbal and nonverbal tasks. It is used for diagnosing intellectual disabilities and giftedness.
Example: The SB5 was chosen because its nonverbal scale suited the child's limited English.
Usage notes
The test descends from Lewis Terman's 1916 Stanford revision of the Binet-Simon scale, which popularized IQ in the United States. Gale Roid developed the fifth edition, published in 2003. Its wide range at the extremes makes it useful for identifying profound giftedness.
