SES stands for Socioeconomic status, a psychology abbreviation.

Measure of a person's or family's social and economic position, typically combining income, education and occupation. SES is among the strongest predictors of health, academic achievement and life expectancy and is routinely controlled for in psychological and social research.

Example: After controlling for SES, the link between screen time and test scores disappeared.

Usage notes

There is no single standard measure, so studies use indexes such as parental education, household income or neighborhood deprivation. Subjective SES, a person's perceived standing, predicts health outcomes independently of objective measures.
