Example: Index rebalancing pushed MOC imbalances above $5 billion on the last trading day of the quarter.
US exchanges set cutoffs for MOC orders, such as 3:50 p.m. Eastern on the NYSE, and publish order imbalance information before the close. The closing auction now accounts for a large share of daily volume. A limit-on-close (LOC) order adds a price limit.
