LFPR stands for Labor force participation rate, an economics abbreviation.
Share of the working-age population, in the US the civilian non-institutional population aged 16 and over, that is either employed or actively looking for work. It shows how many people are engaged in the labor market.
Example: The LFPR for prime-age women reached a record high, offsetting retirements among older workers.
Usage notes
US participation peaked at about 67.3 percent in early 2000 and has trended lower since, partly because the population is aging. Analysts often focus on the prime-age (25 to 54) rate, which removes much of the demographic effect. A falling LFPR can lower the unemployment rate without any increase in jobs.
