ICSID stands for International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, a litigation abbreviation.
World Bank Group institution in Washington, D.C., established under the 1965 ICSID Convention, that administers arbitrations between foreign investors and states under investment treaties and contracts. It is the leading forum for investor-state dispute settlement.
Example: The mining company filed an ICSID claim alleging the government expropriated its concession without compensation.
Usage notes
Pronounced "ICK-sid". The Convention entered into force in 1966. ICSID awards are not reviewed by national courts; a party may instead seek annulment before an ad hoc committee on narrow grounds. Member states must enforce the monetary obligations of awards as if they were final judgments of their own courts.
