G/P stands for Gravida/para, an obstetrics & gynecology abbreviation.
Shorthand for obstetric history: gravida is the number of times a woman has been pregnant, and para is the number of pregnancies carried to 20 weeks or beyond. A woman pregnant for the third time with two prior births is G3P2.
Example: Obstetric history (G/P): G2P1, one prior uncomplicated vaginal delivery, now 28 weeks.
Usage notes
Gravida comes from the Latin for "heavy", and para from parere, to give birth. A twin pregnancy counts as one gravida and one para. Related terms include nulliparous (never given birth) and primigravida (first pregnancy). The GTPAL system expands "para" into four separate numbers.
