Example: FPG 118 mg/dL and A1C 6.0: prediabetes, enroll in Diabetes Prevention Program.
Usage notes
Laboratory plasma glucose is more accurate than fingerstick meter readings for diagnosis. The WHO places the lower prediabetes cutoff at 110 mg/dL rather than the ADA's 100. Older notes write FBS (fasting blood sugar). Steroids, acute illness and the dawn phenomenon can raise morning values.
