FCW stands for Forward collision warning, an automotive abbreviation.
Alert that warns the driver with sounds and lights when the car is closing too quickly on a vehicle or obstacle ahead. Unlike automatic emergency braking, FCW only warns and relies on the driver to brake.
Example: FCW beeped loudly when the car in front slammed on its brakes at the light.
Usage notes
FCW and AEB usually come together and share the same sensors. Studies found FCW alone reduced rear-end crashes, and adding automatic braking reduced them further. Sensitivity can often be adjusted in the vehicle's settings menu.
