GCWR stands for Gross combined weight rating, an automotive abbreviation.
Maximum allowed total weight of a loaded vehicle plus a loaded trailer, set by the manufacturer. Towing within the rated trailer weight can still exceed GCWR if the truck itself is heavily loaded.
Example: With five people in the cab and the boat behind, we were right at the truck's GCWR.
Usage notes
GCWR is found in owner's manuals and towing guides. A combination with a GCWR of 26,001 pounds or more, towing a trailer over 10,000 pounds, generally requires a Class A commercial license in the US. Towing beyond the rating strains transmission cooling and braking.
