Highest class of international single-seater auto racing, sanctioned by the FIA. Teams of two drivers compete in a world championship of about 24 Grands Prix on purpose-built and street circuits, with separate titles for drivers and constructors.

Example: Max Verstappen clinched his fourth straight F1 title in Las Vegas in November 2024.

The first World Championship race was held at Silverstone, England, on May 13, 1950. "Formula" refers to the set of technical rules every car must meet. Commercial rights have been owned by Liberty Media since 2017. The 2026 season brought new power-unit and chassis rules and an eleventh team, Cadillac. Also written "Formula 1".

2. F1 score

A classification metric equal to the harmonic mean of precision and recall, ranging from 0 to 1. It rewards models that balance finding positives against avoiding false alarms and is common on imbalanced datasets.

Example: The new spam classifier raised F1 from 0.81 to 0.89 on the held-out emails.

Derived from the F-measure that C. J. van Rijsbergen introduced in information retrieval in 1979; the general F-beta score weights recall more or less heavily than precision. Macro and micro averaging extend it to many classes. In sport F1 means Formula One, and on keyboards it is usually the help key.
