DNN stands for Deep neural network, an artificial intelligence abbreviation.
Any neural network with multiple hidden layers between input and output, able to learn hierarchical features, such as edges, then shapes, then whole objects in images. DNNs are the models of deep learning.
Example: The DNN replaced six hand-tuned rules in the fraud pipeline.
Usage notes
There is no exact layer count that makes a network "deep", though the term implies more than one or two hidden layers. Training very deep networks became practical with GPUs, ReLU activations, better initialization and residual connections (ResNet, 2015).
