CNH stands for Offshore Chinese yuan, a currency abbreviation.

A market code, not an official ISO 4217 code, for renminbi traded outside mainland China, chiefly in Hong Kong, the main offshore center since 2010. Its rate floats more freely than the onshore CNY but usually stays close to it.

Example: The bank quoted USD/CNH at 7.18 in early Asian trading.

Usage notes

The H stands for Hong Kong. Offshore renminbi markets also operate in Singapore, London and Taipei. Traders watch the gap between CNH and CNY as a gauge of pressure on the Chinese currency. Bonds issued in offshore yuan are nicknamed dim sum bonds.
