CASB stands for Cloud access security broker, a cybersecurity abbreviation.
Security software that sits between users and cloud services to enforce policies, discover unsanctioned "shadow IT" apps, prevent data leaks and detect risky behavior in SaaS applications.
Example: The CASB revealed 300 unsanctioned cloud apps in use, including personal file-sharing services.
Usage notes
Gartner coined the term in 2012. CASBs work through API connections to cloud services, inline proxies or both, and their functions have largely been absorbed into SASE and SSE platforms. Pronounced "kaz-bee".
