SaaS stands for Software as a service, a cloud computing abbreviation.
Software delivered over the internet on a subscription basis, with the provider hosting, maintaining and updating the application so customers simply log in through a browser or app. Salesforce, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack and Zoom are SaaS products.

Usage notes
Salesforce, founded in 1999 with a "No Software" slogan, is often credited with popularizing the model, which grew out of earlier application service providers. SaaS shifts costs from up-front licenses to recurring subscriptions, which investors value for predictable revenue. Customers give up control over upgrades and data location, so security questionnaires, SOC 2 reports and data-processing agreements are standard parts of buying it. Usually pronounced "sass", it sits at the top of the stack above PaaS and IaaS.
