CSPM stands for Cloud security posture management, a cybersecurity abbreviation.
Tools that continuously scan cloud accounts for misconfigurations and compliance violations, such as public storage buckets, overly permissive IAM roles or unencrypted databases, and help fix them.
Example: CSPM flagged a storage bucket that had been publicly readable for six months.
Usage notes
Misconfiguration is a leading cause of cloud breaches, which drove demand for these tools from around 2018. Products from Wiz, Palo Alto Networks and the cloud providers themselves check accounts against benchmarks such as CIS. CSPM is now usually bundled into cloud-native application protection platforms (CNAPP).
