BWSTT stands for Body-weight-supported treadmill training, a rehabilitation abbreviation.
Gait training in which a harness supports part of the patient's body weight over a treadmill while therapists assist leg movements. It is used after stroke, spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions.
Example: BWSTT 30 percent support, 1.2 mph, 15 min; assist for L foot placement.
Usage notes
Robotic devices can replace manual stepping assistance. The LEAPS trial, published in 2011, found body-weight-supported training no better than a home-based exercise program after stroke. Support is gradually reduced as strength and balance improve.
